Betty Zane Beer

February 18, 1926 — April 22, 2024

Betty Zane Lichtenberger Beer, 98, of Richburg, SC passed away peacefully at her home on April 22, 2024 with family at her side. Betty was the daughter of the late William Lichtenberger and Ina Finkhousen Lichtenberger. She was born in Decatur, IN where she grew up and then graduated from Pleasant Mills High School in 1944. After graduation, Betty took off on an adventure that lasted almost a year, taking her throughout the west and out to CA. Upon her return, she met and married Dale Beer and they settled down in Decatur, IN. In 1955, they made the life changing decision to pack up three small boys under the age of five, all their worldly possession's, and move to Richburg, SC. They bought land and started a farm where they raised their family, and started a dairy and row crop farm operation. The farm is still operated today raising prize angus cattle, and managed by second, third, and forth generation family members. Betty was a devoted member of Mt. Prospect UMC for over 69 years, a dedicated member of the UMW and the church choir, where she loved to make a joyful noise. She loved life, family, and farming but most of all she loved to fish, spending hours at her ponds. In her 98 years, she witnessed changes that most can only imagine from riding in a horse and buggy as transportation, a Great Depression, World War II, and men landing on the moon. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Dale Beer, son Mike Beer, and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by two sons, Greg Beer (Marilyn) of Richburg, SC and Randy Beer (June) of West Columbia, SC; daughters, Angela Beer (Dwaine) of Charlotte, NC, Arlynn "Buffy" Neal of Rock Hill, SC; granddaughters Amy Tate (John) of Richburg, SC, Tracy Leslie (Gregg) of Charlotte, NC; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Mount Prospect United Methodist Church with Rev. Cecelia Davis and Doug Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church. Memorials may be made to Mount Prospect United Methodist Church, 2543 Mountain Gap Road, Richburg, SC 29279 Online condolences may be made to the family at www.dantzlerbakerfuneral.com
