Edgemoor Mr. Carl Eugene “Gene”Broome, 84, died Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Piedmont Medical Center.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 20, 2017, at Fort Lawn Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Linderman, Rev. Curtis Cameron, Rev. Ronnie Boone and Rev. David Sealy officiating.Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday in the social hall of the church. Mr. Broome was born June 18, 1932 in Fairfield County, SC and was a son of the late John R. Broom and Edith Bell Broom.He was a graduate of Fort Lawn High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army.After Mr. Broome’s retirement as a payroll clerk for Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Co., he worked as a loss prevention officerfor West Marine Distribution Center in Rock Hill.He was an active member of Fort Lawn Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon.Carl and his late wife, Annie, were known as Maw-Maw and Paw-Paw to many. He is survived by two sons, Carl Broome (Darlene) of Lancaster and Paul Broome of Edgemoor; one daughter, Tammy Arthur (Allen) of Chester; one granddaughter, Ally Arthur of Chester; one sister, Frances Dow of Richburg; and several nieces and nephews.Mr. Broome was preceded in death by his wife of more than 56 years, Annie Lee Pressley Broome and a granddaughter, Cynthia Lee Broome.
