Cayce, SC Mr. Chevis Ray Broome, Jr., 78, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at his home.A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Ave., Great Falls, SC with Rev. Brett DeYoung officiating.The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 PM on Saturday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home at 2324 Camelia St., Cayce, SCInterment will be private. Mr. Broome was born in Great Falls on December 17, 1932 and was a son of Flossie Orr Broome and the late, Chevis R. Broome, Sr.He was a graduate of Great Falls High School where he was a star player for the Red Devils.He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was retired from Overnight Transportation after 38 years of service as a road dispatcher.He was a former member of Mt. Dearborn United Methodist Church. In addition to his mother, Flossie Orr Broome of Lancaster, he is survived by his wife of forty years, Shirley J. Broome; one daughter, Sharon R. Gardner and herhusband John and their children, J.T. and Jacob Ray Gardner all of Lugoff, SC; and one sister, Lyn Carter of Lancaster.He was preceded in death by a son, Chevis Ray Broome, III and a sister, Joy Orr.The family would like to extend special thanks to Heartstrings Hospice and Chaplain Brett DeYoung; Mr. Broome's nurses, Lisa, Lee, De, Sue, Michelle, Pam, and Evelyn; Dr. Chris Marshall and nurse Allison, and Britt with Achieve Medical Supplies.
