Delora (Tena) Wright Hunter, 87, passed away in Lexington SC on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. A graveside service will be 3:30 PM, Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Sunday, April 23 at Dantzler Baker Funeral Home. Mrs. Hunter was born in Lancaster, SC to Daniel Kershaw (Dee) Wright and Maggie Plyler Wright Morrison on May 28, 1935. She was raised in Lancaster and Great Falls, before as a young adult moving to Florida and finally back to Great Falls. She married William T. Hunter and they settled in Richburg, SC. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina and taught third grade for twenty years at Southside Elementary and later Chester Park Elementary. Tena was a member of the Richburg Baptist Church and also the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 213 in Richburg for many years.Tena enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling. She was an avid reader and loved playing cards and dominos. Her special “place” was in Maggie Valley with friends where she spent summers for the last twenty years. She is survived by her son, Jim (Judy) Whitesell and daughter Sharon Lee (Rick) Riley, sister Hilda Knight, and brother Robert (Christine) Morrison. She was “Memaw” to her precious grandchildren, Jimi (Julie) Whitesell, Jaime (Jim) Snelling, Alex (Jill) Riley, Jenna (Dan) Carson, and Maggie (Eric) Crane. She also enjoyed her most precious great grandchildren, Baxter and Shyla Whitesell, Cora Crane, Adalynn and Graham Carson, Isabelle and Ethan Snelling. Tena was also loved and will be missed by her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, sister Juanita (Sis) Myers, and brothers, Larry and Michael Wright.
