Mr. Donald Eugene Camp, 80, died Monday, April 26, 2021 at MUSC Lancaster after a brief illness. There will be no public services or visitation at this time. Mr. Camp was born August 9, 1940 in Great Falls, SC and was a son of the late George Marvin and Maggie Beattie Camp. He was a 1958 graduate of Great Falls High School and had a Master Gardener’s Certificate from Clemson University.He had 29 years in the textile industry having advanced from his first job in high school as a sweeper to acting mill Manager during the closing time of Republic mill #3, after the mill closing he became owner and operator of Dearborn Motors in Great Falls for 12 years. Don was elected to Great Falls Town Council and served the remainder of an unfulfilled seat and later won another seat on council by a write-in vote, he also served a four year term as Mayor of Great Falls. Mr. Camp served on Supervisory Committee at Republic Federal Credit Union, Census worker for Chester County, delivery volunteer for ‘Meals on Wheels’ program, past president Rossville Community Center, Charmain of Great Falls United Way, member of Great Falls Hometown Association, Chester County Planning & Zoning Committee, Poll Manager for Chester County Election Committee and Chester Metropolitan Board Member for Great Falls area. There are remarkable stories of Don’s compassion and goodness to his fellowman and he loved sharing quality time with his friends. Don loved spending time with his granddaughter Angelina, gardening, woodworking-construction, repurposing and making furniture, NASCAR, his collection of Western paperbacks, Fifty’s music and he was an authority figure on Great Falls history with an unbelievably storage of memory. He is survived by his wife of over 54 years Norma Jean Smith Camp; one daughter, Allison Brooks (Hal); one granddaughter, Angelina Brooks;nephews, David Camp, Charles Camp; severalgrandnephews, nieces and cousins.
