Dr. Hollis P. Snead, Jr.

Great Falls Dr. Hollis P. Snead, Jr., 83, long-time physician in the Great Falls community died Thursday, January 6, 2011. A service will be held at the graveside on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Greenlawn Cemetery with Rev. James Lowry officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 4:00 PM at the Great Falls Masonic Lodge on Dearborn St. Born in Great Falls on October 24, 1927 he was a son of the late Hollis P. Snead and Juanita Pittman Snead.He graduated valedictorian from Great Falls High School and completed his studies at The Medical College of Charleston in three years.While serving the the U.S. Army in Japan, he was chief of staff in the neurology section at Osaka Hospital.He opened his medical practice in Great Falls in 1955 and tirelessly served his community until his death.He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and was president of the Wateree Hunt Club.Most important to him was the care of his patients.He loved the Carolina Gamecocks. Dr. Snead is survived by his wife, Toni Simpson Snead; one son, Hollis Snead and wife Kim of Chapin, SC; on daughter, Dr. Nori S. Warren and husband Will of Columbia, SC; three grandchildren, Rachel, Leah, and Kinsey; one sister, Becky Waldrep of Simpsonville, SC; two nephews, Jo Jo and Ashby Snead of Great Falls; one niece, Russi Reynolds of Columbia.
