Great Falls Mr. Ellie "Curly" McManus, age 91, of Great Falls died Monday, September 13, 2010 at Palmetto Richland Hospital.A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Great Falls, SC with Rev. David Faile and Rev. Greg Batchelor officiating.The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:45 PM on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Ave., Great Falls, SC. Born April 1, 1919 in Kershaw Co., SC, he was a son of the late James Lee and Mary Ellen Branham McManus.He attended the schools of Kershaw County and was retired from the Town of Great Falls Sanitation Department.He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.Mr. McManuswas a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in England, France, and Germany where he served as a tank destroyer cannoneer.He was a highly decorated veteran receiving the American Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal. He is survived by three sons, Charles McManus and wife, Dene of Clearwater, Fl., Stanley McManus and wife, Carol and Lester McManus and wife, Dale both of Great Falls; one daughter, Mary Jane Faile and husband, David of Camden, SC; ten grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one sister, Betty M.
