Frances Speake Mcmeekin

Lancaster Mrs. Frances Speake McMeekin, age 95, died on Tuesday, December, 12, 2017 at White Oak Manor, Lancaster, SC. She was born on December 28, 1921, in Laurens County, SC and was the daughter of the late George Thomas Speake and Elliott Dobbins Speake and the widow of Edgar Gibson McMeekin. She was a graduate of Clinton High School and Presbyterian College. Mrs. McMeekin, a retired elementary school teacher, taught in Orangeburg, Whitmire, Winnsboro, and Great Falls. She was an active member of Mt. Dearborn United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was also a member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. McMeekin is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Stevenson and her husband, Carlisle, and Elizabeth Parker and her husband, George, both of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Kathryn Stevenson Mahaffey (Jimmy) of Myrtle Beach,Mary Stevenson Herndon (Hugh) ofDestin, Florida, Gee Parker (Laura),Frances Parker, and Elizabeth Parker Rowe, (Jason)all of Lancaster County; six great grandsons, Jameson and John Carlisle Mahaffey, Graham and Carter Herndon, Lawton and Hayes Parker; and a great granddaughter, Lily Rowe. She was preceded in death by one brother, George Shannon Speake and four sisters, Sara Weathers, Mary Emma Motes, Rebecca Speake and Lillian Holcombe. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. McMeekin will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Mt. Dearborn United Methodist Church in Great Falls with the Rev. David Ussery officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service at the ARP Cemetery in Winnsboro, SC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday at Mt. Dearborn United Methodist Church, 12 Calhoun St., Great Falls, SC.
