Fort Lawn Mr. Gaither Ray Bumgardner, 65, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Great Falls Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mary Anne Welch, Rev. David McManus, and Rev. Sam McGregor, Jr. officiating.Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends anytime at the home, 1502 Riverview Cr., Fort Lawn, SC. Mr. Bumgardner was born June 15, 1949 in Monroe, NC and was a son of the late Benjamin T. Bumgardner and Gertie Huffstetler Bumgardner.He was a graduate of Kings Mountain High School and Mars Hill University and received graduate degrees from Morehead State University and Winthrop University.He was former band director and school administrator in Chester and Lancaster Counties of SC and present band director at Forestview High School in Gastonia, NC.Mr. Bumgardner was a member of Great Falls Presbyterian Church where he formerly served as choir director, organist and pianist, and elder.He was presently serving as choir director, organist and pianist at Allison Creek Presbyterian Church in York, SC. He is survived by his wife, Melissa “Lisa” Mackey Bumgardner; one son, Gaither Ray Bumgardner, II of Brooklyn, NY; two daughters, Victoria Lynn Bumgardner of Cullowhee, NC and Anna Bumgardner Lonon of Charleston, SC; two grandchildren, Jonathan “Jack” Lonon and Harper Rose Lonon both of Charleston, SC; two brothers, Joseph L. Baumgardner (Judy) of Cheraw, SC and Eugene C. Bumgardner (Becky) of Rock Hill, SC; two sisters, Bentha B. Crook (David) of Winston-Salem, NC and Susan B. Huntsinger of Mooresville, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Great Falls Presbyterian Church, 500 Dearborn St., Great Falls, SC 29055.
