Glenda Hackle Bankhead, 92, died Monday, January 12, 2026, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 16, at Hebron Presbyterian Church, 4776 Mtn. Gap Road, Blackstock, South Carolina, with the Rev. Jim Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with a visitation after committal.
Mrs. Bankhead was born January 5, 1934, in Fairfield County, South Carolina, and was the daughter of the late Willie A. Hackle and Mary Glisson Hackle. After attending business school, she began her professional career at the Bank of Great Falls. Following the bank’s acquisition, she continued her service with First Citizens Bank, where she worked until her retirement in 1995. She maintained many treasured friendships from her years in banking.
A faithful member of Hebron Presbyterian Church for 70 years, Mrs. Bankhead served her congregation with devotion and humility. She played the piano for worship services and served as cemetery treasurer for more than 40 years, leaving a lasting legacy of service and stewardship.
She is survived by her children, Michael Lee Bankhead (Lee Ann) of Great Falls, South Carolina; Mary Jo Nimmo (Bobby) of Snow Hill, North Carolina; and Jan Cox (Rodney) of Greer, South Carolina; her sister, Deane Hackle Smith; three beloved grandchildren, Benjamin Lee Knight (Betsy) of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Angela Dawn Cooper (EJ) of Great Falls, South Carolina, and Steven Bankhead Nimmo (Mary Catherine) of Wilson, North Carolina; six great-grandchildren, Pierce Funderburk, Sarah Jane Knight, Remmington Cooper, Hadley Nimmo, Rebecca Nimmo, Robert Thomas Nimmo, Kameron Cooper, Noah Cooper, Brooks Cooper, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Thomas Lee Bankhead.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Lynn McManus, whose devoted care, kindness, and compassion were a blessing to Mrs. Bankhead and her family.
