Fort Lawn Mr. Herbert Pearson Pettit, Jr., 69, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Springs Memorial Hospital.A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Elmwood Cemetery in Fort Lawn with Rev. Ted Hodges, Rev. Larry Linderman, and Father Agustin Guzman officiating.The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service. Mr. Pettit was born January 28, 1945 in Chester County, SC and was a son of the late Herbert Pearson Pettit, Sr. and Gladys Varnadore Pettit.He was a graduate of Great Falls High School and the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy.He was retired from the Chester County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Captain and was a member of Great Falls Masonic Lodge #277.Mr. Pettit was a member of Fort Lawn Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of more than 49 years, Linda Grant Pettit; three grandchildren; Bryan Kevin Pettit, Jr. of Ohio, Trevor Scott Newland of Great Falls, and Sabrina; one brother, Vernon Wayne Pettit (Mary) of Edgemoor; and numerous nieces and nephews.Mr. Pettit was preceded in death by three sons, Russell Preston Pettit, Bryan Keith Pettit, and Richard Gregory Pettit.
