Ed Baker GREAT FALLS:Mr. James Edward "Ed" Baker, 84, of 3150 Scott Road died Saturday January 17, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Great Falls Church of God with the Rev. James Freeman and the Rev. Roy Puckett officiating.Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mr. Baker was born May 13, 1924 in Great Falls,a son of the late David P. "Doc" and Ruby Croxton Baker.He attended the schools of Great Falls and was formerly the co-owner of the Dearborn Coffee Shop.He was retired from J.P.Stevens Co. after 45 years as a slasher foreman with a 10 year perfect attendance record.Mr. Baker was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII and a long time member of the Great Falls Church of God, where he was well-known for playing his guitar.He formerly served the church as Sunday school superintendent and secretary of his Sunday school class.Previously, Mr. Baker served as a member of the Republic Federal Credit Union where he was on the finance committee. He was also active in G.R.A.S.P.Mr. Baker was a dedicated husband and cared for his wife Edith Self Baker for 61 years until her death in October 2008.He is survived by his children, 2 sons, Kenneth Baker and his wife Sadie of Fort Lawn and Coleman Baker and his wife Dale of Great Falls; 2 daughters, Lynda Baker and her companion Ronnie Hill and Karen Puckett and her husband Rev. Roy Puckett of McColl; brothers, Howard Baker of Westbury, NY and Bob Baker of Phenix City, AL; sister, Ruby Mae Roberts of Great Falls; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.He was preceded in death by brothers, Perry Baker and William "Bill" Baker and a special aunt and uncle, Willy and Nonie Johnson. Mr. Baker will always be remembered by his family and friends for being a die hard Washington Redskin fan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Great Falls Church of God, 34 Underwood Avenue, Great Falls, SC29055. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.
