Mrs. Jeanette Atkinson Jordan, of The Presbyterian Communities in Clinton, SC, went to be with God on April 10th, 2014.A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 13th, 2014 at 3:00 PM at the Great Falls Presbyterian Church, 500 Dearborn St., Great Falls, SC with Rev. Mary Ann Welch officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 PM to 2:45 PM in the church fellowship hall with burial following the service at Cedar Shoals Presbyterian Church. She was born on September 26th, 1919 in Washington, D. C., a daughter of the late Thomas Harris Atkinson and Mattie Williams Atkinson. The family moved to Tampa, FL soon afterwards. She was a 1941 graduate of Erskine College in Due West, SC.Upon graduating with a degree in mathematics, she taught school for a short period of time before joining the Civil Air Patrol in Tampa where she flew a Piper Cub over Tampa Bay to search for submarines. She also worked in the Ballistic Research Laboratory in Aberdeen, MD for several years during WWII. She was predeceased by her husband, William Dozier Jordan. She was an active member of the Great Falls Presbyterian Church where she was a circle leader, Sunday school and Bible school teacher. Together with her sister, Stuart Weir, she received the Women of the Church Honorary Life Membership Award. She was an avid gardener and a past member of the Garden Club of South Carolina. She also enjoyed playing bridge and sewing, but, perhaps one of her most favorite pastimes was swimming. Shespent considerable time china painting in later years and loved creating special plates for wedding gifts. As a mother and grandmother she loved to entertain children with stories, games and scriptures. She is survived by three daughters, Jeanette J. Kendree of Conway, Sara Margaret Jordan of Flat Rock, NC and Katherine J. Hedrick and husband Bart of Simpsonville; one sister in law, Alice Atkinson of Naples, Fl, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
