Joel Crosby

Blackstock Mr. Joel Crosby, 97, died on Friday, November 27, 2015, at his home. A graveside service with Masonic rites will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Great Falls with grandson, Rev. Joel Hunt and nephew, Brent Parker officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Ave., Great Falls, SC. Mr. Crosby was born March 27, 1918 in Bulloch County, Georgia and was a son of the late William C. Crosby and Maggie Byrd Crosby.He attended the schools of Great Falls and completed the GED program after his military service.Mr. Crosby was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II.He was a member of First Baptist Church of Great Falls where he served as a deacon and a member of the Great Falls Masonic Lodge #277 for more than 60 years.Mr. Crosby was a retired mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and an avid turkey hunter. He is survived by two grandsons, Joel William Crosby (Adriana) of Blackstock, SC and Rev. Joel Hunt (Jane) of Pensacola, Fl.; two granddaughters, Susan Chamberlain (Chris) of Jonesville, SC and Amanda Smith (John) of Seneca, SC; fourteen great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and two nephews, George Parker of Blackstock, SC and Brent Parker of Barnwell, SC;.He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Ratterree Crosby; a son, Bill Joe Crosby; and a daughter, Jane Crosby.
