John Austin Tibbs

Mr. John Austin Tibbs, 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, September 15, 2025. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Brakefield-Tibbs family cemetery in McConnells, SC with Rev. Michael Shaffer, Rev. Cotton Pate and Rev. Andy Logan officiating. 

He was born July 25, 1940 in Charlotte, NC and was the son of the late John Herbert Tibbs and Francis Bartley Tibbs. He was the loving husband, life partner and soul mate to his wife of 63 years, Margaret (Peggy) Brakefield Tibbs. John started his career with Duke Energy having worked there for 20 years and also worked for Petroleum Energy Contractors and Springs Industries. He was living his best life when he was taking care of his family that he cherished. He loved riding and rebuilding old Harley Davidson Motorcycles and other antique bikes. John was a member of the antique motorcycle club, Mechanized Cavalry and Sons of Confederate Veterans Motorcycle Club. He was certainly one of God's children.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two children, Mary Amanda (Mandy) Tibbs Acker and John Carl Tibbs and his son-in-law, Lauren James (Al) Acker; granddaughters, Jamie Lynn and Lauren Nicole Acker, Sarin Marie Tibbs and Mari Camella Price (Jamie); grandsons, John Callan Tibbs and Colton Zayne Evans (Nicole); one brother, Harry David Tibbs; He was preceded in death by his son Joseph Edward (Eddie) Tibbs and his sister, Florence Olivia Tibbs-Wilkey.
