GREAT FALLS:Chief Petty Officer John "Rags" Quincy Ragsdale, Jr., U.S. Navy Retired, of 6530 Heritage Road, Winnsboro, SC died Saturday June 20, 2009 at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, SC.He was 58. Funeral services will be 11:00a.m. Wednesday at Lake Wateree Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Gregory officiating.Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Born August 11, 1950 in Williamston, SC he was a son of John Q. Ragsdale, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Henderson Ragsdale.He was a graduate of Palmetto High School in Williamston, SC.Chief Ragsdale entered the U.S. Marines and later retired from the U.S. Navy, having served in the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War. Surviving in addition to his father of Williamston, SC are his wife, Dorothy Blackmon Ragsdale; two daughters, Denna Ragsdale Crawford of Anderson, SC and Lesley Ragsdale Childers and husband Randy of Anderson, SC; two sons, John Russell Starnes and wife Monique of Marianna, Florida and William Randall Starnes and wife Josephine of Goose Creek, SC; 10 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.Also surviving are his brother, Rodney Ragsdale of Williamston, SC and four sisters, Joan Ragsdale, Melisa Duffie, and Donna Graddick of Greenville, SC and Cindy Thompson of Williamston, SC. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 at Lake Wateree Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Lake Wateree Baptist Church Building Fund, 5856 River Road, Ridgeway, SC29130.
