John Herbert Tibbs

Great Falls Mr. John Herbert Tibbs, 97, died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Springs Memorial Hospital.The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Batchelor and Rev. Andy Logan officiating.Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Ave., Great Falls, SC. Mr. Tibbs was born September 12, 1913 in Great Falls and was a son of the late Harry Albert Tibbs and Mattie Florence Holt Tibbs and widower of Frances Bartley Tibbs.He graduated from Great Falls High School and Clemson College.He was an engineer with Duke Power and retired after more than 40 years of service.Mr. Tibbs enjoyed the status of the oldest member of First Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and served on numerous committees throughout the church. He is survived by one daughter, Olivia Tibbs Wilkey of Fort Lawn; two sons, John A. Tibbs and his wife Peggy of Great Falls and H. David Tibbs and his wife Debbie of Hoover, Ala.; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church “Frances B.
