Great Falls Mr. L.V. Self, 93, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Morningside Assisted Living in Lancaster.Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Great Falls with Rev. Marion Dry, Rev. Roland Dry, and Rev. Larry Roberts officiating.Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM on Friday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Self was born in Lancaster County on October 22, 1920 and was a son of the late William S. Self and Janie Hopkins Self and the widower of Lottie Catoe Self.He attended the schools of Lancaster and Kershaw Counties and graduated from Great Falls High School at the age of 65.He served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received the Purple Heart and retired from J.P. Stevens as a supervisor in the weave room.Mr. Self was a member of the Great Falls Masonic Lodge #277.He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and on numerous committees throughout the church. Mr. Self is survived by four sons, Douglas Self of Rock Hill, Wilson Self and wife Elizabeth of Fort Pierce, Fl., Rev. Marion Dry and wife Tracy of Great Falls, and Rev. Roland Dry and wife Carol of Rock Hill; three daughters, Elaine Self Howard and husband Olin of Andrews, SC, Angela Self Bailey and husband Mike of Fort Lawn, and Barbara Dry Mosier of Raleigh, NC; 26 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a son, Franklin Dry, two grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
