Great Falls Mr. L. C. Broom, 83, died Saturday, July 30, 2011 at his home.A graveside service with Masonic rites will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Greenlawn Cemetery with Rev. Marion Dry officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, August 1, 2011 at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Ave., Great Falls, SC. Mr. Broom was born May 24, 1928 in Lockhart, SC and was a son of the late Robert Thomas Broom and Myrtle Hope Byars Broom.He attended the schools of Great Falls and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict where he received the Purple Heart and the Army Bronze Star.He retired from J.P. Stevens as an overhauler and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #277 in Great Falls.He was a member of Heath Chapel United Methodist Church. He is survived by one son, Leonard Broom and wife Beth of Union, SC; two daughters, Nancy Broom of Great Falls and Katherine Roberson and husband Gary of Rock Hill; four grandchildren, April Upton and husband Chad of Fountain Inn, Amanda Seals and husband Chris of Fountain Inn, Vicki Ferguson and husband Jared of Fort Mill, and Stacy Roberson and friend John Johnson of Rock Hill; three great grandchildren, Caleb Seals, Ian Seals, and Olivia Donaldson; his dog, Holly; and one brother, Bobby Joe Broom of Great Falls.He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Laughridge Broom; one brother and four sisters.
