Lee Wells Mckeown, Sr.

Great Falls: Mr. Lee Wells McKeown, 78, died Sunday, May 9, 2010 at his residence. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday at Heath Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Scott Smoak, Father David Runnion and Father Joe Ayathupadam officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mr. McKeown was born July 31, 1931, a son of the late Lee Max McKeown and Mary Brannon McKeown. He was a graduate of Great Falls High School and Charlotte Business College and veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean War. He was a member of Heath Chapel United Methodist Church and was retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections as a supervisor. Mr. McKeown was an avid lover of horses and a member of the American Saddlebred Association. He was also a member of the Great Falls Masonic Lodge #277 , Hejaz Shrine Temple, Great Falls Shrine Club and a former member of the Great Falls Merchants Association and the Jaycees. Mr Mckeown was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party. Mr. McKeown is survived by two sons, Lee Wells McKeown, Jr. and David Brannon McKeown both of Great Falls, SC; one daughter Robin McKeown Thomasson of Summerville, SC; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and two brothers, Larry McKeown of Columbia, SC and Terry McKeown of Great Falls, SC. Mr. McKeown is the widower of Frankie Knopf Mckeown, having been married for over fifty-five years.
