Leonard Wade "Flopeye" Broome

Mr. Leonard Wade Broome, 89, died Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at White Oak Manor York. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM, Friday, April 4, 2025 at Dantzler Baker Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Bagwell officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM also Friday at  Dantzler Baker Funeral Home.

Mr. Broome was born March 3, 1936 in Great Falls, SC and was the son of the late Wade Abraham Broome and Mamie Catherine Dawkins Broome. He was a graduate of Great Falls High School and was retired from Duke Power after 31 years of service as an electrician. Mr. Broome was a veteran of the US Army. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Great Falls. "Flopeye" enjoyed watching sports  was a bluegrass music fan and loved watching The Grand Ole Opry.

He is survived by his three children  Dennis Wade Broome (Autumn) of Rock Hill, SC, Darryl Broome (Karen) of Walhalla, SC and Denise Whitlow (Jeff) of Fort Mill, SC; six grandchildren, Alden Broome, Andrew Broome, Kaitlyn Whitlow, Bayley Huntley, Gary Whitlow and Curtis Whitlow, six great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Broome of Great Falls, SC;  brother-in-law Dean Runion (Carol) of Great Falls, SC and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of over 33 years, Annette Runion Broome; two brothers, Elliott Zeke Broome and Austin Broome, granddaughter, Erin Leigh Broome and his companion Vetta Lawson.

The family would like to offer a “heartfelt thanks” to the Rock Hill Grove Senior Living Center and White Oak Manor, York.
