Great Falls Mr. Marcus Tennant Ray, 90, died Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, SC.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Great Falls Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mary Anne Welch officiating.Committal will follow in Greenlawn cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 9, at Great Falls Presbyterian Church, 500 Dearborn St., Great Falls, SC. Mr. Ray was born May 11, 1924 in Barnwell County, SC and was a son of the late Otto V. Ray and Carrie Tennant Ray.He was a graduate of the schools of Chester County and USC-Lancaster.Mr. Ray served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired as police chief of Great Falls.He served as mayor of Great Falls from 1994 to 1998.Mr. Ray also worked in law enforcement in Columbia and Winnsboro and Wackenhut Security in Charlotte, NCHe previously worked as an insurance adjuster in Lancaster, worked with Southern Railroad, and also worked for Grand Central, Wilco, and Shell convenience stores.Mr. Ray was a member of Great Falls Presbyterian Church where he was formerly a deacon.He was a member of Great Falls Masonic Lodge, the Hejaz Shrine Temple, the American Legion, and the NRA. Mr. Ray is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Dorothy Jordan Ray; one son, Marcus Neil “Butch” Ray and wife Marain of Selmer, Tenn.; two daughters, Janice R. Munn and Mary R. Case and husband Steve both of Great Falls; five grandchildren, Tammie Ray, Chris Munn, Heather Neely Faulkner, Brad Munn, and Kristen Neely Ledford; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by one sister and five brothers.
