Marshall Ray Clack Sr.

Marshall Ray Clack, Sr., known to most as Ray and affectionately called “Pumpkin,” passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of September 1, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 83 years old. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at Lake Wateree Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Morrison officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 9 at Wateree Baptist Church. 

Born October 30, 1942, Ray was the son of the late Sammie Clack and Mary Hancock Clack. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Johnnie Mae Clack; his brothers, Richard Clack and Audrey Clack; his brother-in-law, William Stevenson; and his dear friend, Steve Varnadore.

Ray retired from Springs Mills and also worked as a general contractor with Clack’s Construction. He loved being useful building something, fixing something, helping others, or teaching someone how to complete a project. Before getting started, he usually had to talk the whole project through. Sharing what he knew and showing others how to do things was simply part of who he was.

He enjoyed playing golf, watching the birds, working on projects, and visiting with his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his brother, Ralph Clack and his wife, Eula Mae; his sisters, Betty Stevenson and Inez Houston and her husband, Joe; his sister-in-law, Joyce Clack, wife of his late brother Audrey; and his niece and dear friend, Sharon, wife of his late friend Steve Varnadore.

Ray leaves behind his sons, Anthony Clack, Clyde Belk, and Marshall “Marty” Clack, Jr. and his wife, Paula; his only daughter, Angie McInvaille, and her husband, Rickey McInvaille; his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many extended family members, church family members, and friends.

In his later years, Ray made his home with Angie and Rickey. Together, they provided him with a loving home and supported him through the final chapter of his life. Because of their care and devotion, he was able to remain at home, surrounded by the family he loved, until his peaceful passing.

Ray was a longtime member of Great Falls Church of God and later attended Lake Wateree Baptist Church. Above all else, his heart’s desire was to be a witness for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to do something for the Lord every day.

He loved telling his family about the people he met while out and about, the conversations they shared, and the ways those people touched his heart. He prayed for others and tried to meet everyone with compassion rather than judgment.

It was Ray’s great-grandchildren who first affectionately called him “Pumpkin,” and before long, everyone else began calling him by that special name too.

His family will always remember his unique way of asking, “What’s derwrong widchu?” Most of all, they will remember the loving question he often asked, especially of Johnnie Mae: “Have I told you today that I love you?” He would then make certain to say, “I love you.”

Pumpkin lived his faith through his words, his work, his prayers, and his willingness to help others. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is reunited with Johnnie Mae and has entered the presence of the Lord he spent his life loving and serving.
