Martha Kay Forbes Evans passed away on October 26th, 2025, in Lancaster, SC, surrounded by her loving family. She was 78 years old.
Born on April 28, 1947, Kay grew up with a deep appreciation for family, faith, and community. She graduated from Great Falls High School in 1965. She went on to receive multiple degrees from the University of South Carolina, including two bachelor's degrees in interdisciplinary studies and sports management, as well as her master’s in library science. She was very proud of her education and encouraged all of her children and grandchildren to pursue higher education. In the early part of her career, she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC. She ultimately retired as the librarian for the Town of Great Falls.
Kay loved to travel and shop with her husband, Heyward. Together, they enjoyed spoiling their children and grandchildren, family cruises, Disney vacations and just spending time together. Her family was her greatest joy and she took immense pride in being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Kay was preceded in death by the love of her life, Heyward Evans, and her parents, Lon and Mildred Forbes.
Kay is survived by three daughters, Courtney Barron (Blake), Mary Evans and Robin White; her “favorite” son, Rusty Ruff; and eight grandchildren, Carmella, Aliy, Koby (Allie), Karlee (Brady), Avery, and Sydney.
The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Dantzler Baker Funeral Home.
