Michael Walton Allen

April 22, 1944 — August 17, 2020

It is with the heaviest sorrow I announce the passing of Michael Walton Allen.Mike was born in Spartanburg County on April 22nd, in the year of our lord Nineteen Hundred and Forty Four. Mike was a Christian. He was a veteran, who served in the U.S Army from March 31, 1965 to March 5, 1971. Mike was a college graduate who spent 15 years as a full time student. He was a voracious reader absorbing poetry, short stories, and classic literature. Throughout his life he was able to recite his favorite works, and shared them freely. Mike was a collegiate athlete and voted wittiest in his graduating class. Mike had a profound love of music and became an accomplished musician. He lovingly fostered that same appreciation into his children. Mike shared stories of his adventurous youth, where he mined for emeralds in the jungles of South America or worked through a wheat harvest across the heartland of America. Mike bravely spear fished in the Florida Keys, and experienced triumphant moments as a professional bass fisherman. Mike was decorated by the state of South Carolina after he selflessly ran into a burning home and carried an unconscious survivor to safety. Mike was preceded by his father and mother, Denver and Sally Sullivan Allen. Mike is survived by his sister Peggy, three children, Michael, Frances, and William, and three grandchildren Elijah, Rigby, and Zoe. Mike will be sorely missed.A private visitation will be held August the 22nd 2020 and due to restrictions of COVID-19 limited to immediate family.
