Blackstock Mrs. Mildred Kessler Bowles, 87, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Heartland of Columbia.A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday,May 8, 2012 at Hebron Presbyeterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Jim Williams and Rev. Dr. David Riddle officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 PM in the Hebron Presbyterian Church social hall. Born May 6, 1924 in Springwood, Va., Mrs. Bowles was the daughter of the late Jacob P. and Lilla E. Kessler.She was a graduate of Buchanan High School in Buchanan, Va. and Phillips Secretarial College in Roanoke, Va.She was a homemaker. Surviving are one son, Thomas M. Bowles and wife Blanche of Blackstock, SC; two daughters, Marcia B. Burckhalter of Barnwell, SC and Virginia “Gingy” B. Wolcott and husband Mark of Myersville, Md.; seven grandchildren, Marshall Bowles, Hope B. Brooks, Ben Bowles, Catherine W. Bryhan, Jessica W. Cube, and Russell and Laura Birckhalter; two great-grandsons, Gabriel Cube and Jacob Bryhan; and one sister, Marcia Semones.She is also survived by several brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.Mrs. Bowles was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Bowles and a brother, Harold Kessler.
