Mrs. Lee was born April 7, 1942 in Richburg, SC and was the oldest daughter of the late Thomas M. Wrenn and Leona Gillespie Wrenn. Joane was a graduate of the Chester County schools. She married the love of her life, Bill Lee, on December 19, 1959 and together they raised two children, Eddie and Barbara. After Bill retired from military service in 1968, they made their home in Great Falls, SC. Joane remained there until five years ago when she moved into her daughter’s home in Aiken after the tragic death of her beloved son. Joane was a homemaker most of her life, was an accomplished seamstress and a wonderful cook and baker. She made many of Barbara’s recital and prom dresses and a few of her niece’s too. Many people got to enjoy her cakes – especially her pound cakes. While her children were growing up she was active in her home church of Heath Chapel United Methodist Church where she has remained a member. She dearly loved her grandchildren and she and Bill were very active in helping Eddie and Sarah with Charles taking him to many T-ball games, Bible school and other activities. After Bill’s passing in 1996 , she continued helping with her grandchildren as her health allowed. She was very fortunate to receive a kidney transplant in 2011 and was able to enjoy many more relatively healthy years because of it. She always considered herself blessed beyond measure. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Brumbaugh (John) of Aiken, SC; her grandchildren, Charles (Brittany) Lee of Great Falls, SC, James (Leigh) Brumbaugh of Boston, MA, Mara (Mason) Brumbaugh- Beck of Macon, GA, Madelyn Brumbaugh of Savannah, GA, Christopher (Amy) Brumbaugh of American Canyon, CA and Richard Lee of Great Falls; her sisters, Macie Lucas of Lancaster, SC and Mary (Steve) Newlin of Rock Hill, SC; nephews and nieces, Andy, Michele, Keith, Stacy and Tod and a host of other special children and grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as “Mama” or “Grandma Lee”. Memorials may be made in her memory to the Augusta University Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program, Attention: Christine Wiggins-Transplant, AU Medical Center, 1120 15th Street AD-3401, Augusta, GA 30912.
