Mr. Ralph William Black, 87, died Tuesday, March 3, 2026 surrounded by his daughters at his home. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 3:00pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Howell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm - 6:30pm on Saturday, March 7th at Dantzler Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Avenue, Great Falls, SC.
Mr. Black was born November 15, 1938 in a home on Hampton Street in Great Falls and was the son of the late Tom and Mamie Black. He attended the schools of Great Falls and served in the United States Air Force from 1958 - 1966. He worked several jobs over the years but some of his favorites include reading power meters for Fairfield Electric Coop, South Carolina Forestry Commission, his own roofing business, Black’s Roofing, and his last job of delivering newspapers for the Chester News and Reporter. He was an avid wood worker and made several pieces that his family treasures.
He is survived by three daughters, Maxine Tate (Mike), Angie Black and Kathy Funderburk (Michael) all of Great Falls; six grandchildren Shelley Price (Ned), William “Billy” Tate (Julie), Beverly Tate, Shaun Ingram (Candace), Tommy Seagle and Hunter Funderburk; ten great grandchildren, Kinsley, Kassidy, Khloe, Karlee and Bryson Price, Jordan Ramsey, Kayden Hudson, SJ, Caelynn and Smith Ingram.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Marilyn Toole Black, his son Richard Black, his sister Voncile Drawdy and his brother and best friend Thomas Black.
Mr. Black loved his country and the American flag and his family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to replace the American Flags that line the streets of Great Falls. Donations can be mailed to his daughter, Maxine Tate at 105 Duke Street, Great Falls, SC.
