Lancaster Mr. Ross L. Ray, 89, of White Oak Manor in Lancaster and formerly of Fort Mill and Lake Wateree, SC died Sunday, October 23, 2011.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Lake Wateree Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Gregory officiating.Interment will follow at Lake Wateree Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church sanctuary. Mr. Ray was born October 15, 1922 in High Point, NC to the late George W. and Lottie Johnson Ray.He was a 1948 graduate of Lees McRae College and a 1950 graduate of Appalachian State University.He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, Headquarters Battery, 272 Field Artillery Battalion.He was a technical specialist for Celanese Corporation in Rock Hill, SC until his retirement, after which he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, photography, and bird watching. Surviving are his daughter, Gina Inman and husband Bill of Watagua, TX; one son, David Ray and wife Carolyn of Charleston, SC; stepson, J. Ed McFadden and wife Nancy of Valdese, NC; stepdaughters, Roseanne Goodson and husband John of Charlotte, NC and Carol Murphy of husband Mike of Snellville, Ga.; one brother, Bill Ray and wife Bunny of Wilmington, NC; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; and many extended family members.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Barnett Ray; a sister, Dot Peatross; a brother, H.J. "Bud/Squire" Ray; and a daughter, Mary Catherine Ray. Memorials may be made to Lake Wateree Baptist Church, Building Fund, 5856 River Rd., Ridgeway, SC 29130 or Regency Hospice, 420 S. Herlong Ave., Ste. 104, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
