It is with heavy hearts that we share that our precious sister and aunt, Ruthie Mae Catoe Alley passed away peacefully at MUSC Health Lancaster Medical Center on December 26, 2024 following a brief illness. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, JB Alley; her parents, WJ and Pearl G. Catoe; her sister, Inez C. Williams; and her nephew, Keith Williams. Ruth is survived by her sister, Bernice Catoe H. Lawrimore; her nephew, William J. Williams (Anne); her niece, Penny H. Langford (Barry); and her nephew, Ralph Farron Hinson. She was also a cherished great-aunt to William J. Williams Jr. (Leslie), David Williams, Haley W. Barnett (Josh), and Georgette W. Magness (Kevin), James Anderson Langford and William Bryson Langford. Ruth was more than an aunt to her nieces and nephews--she was a constant source of love, laughter, and support. She took immense pride in celebrating their milestones and accomplishments, always present with a generous heart and time to listen. Born in Great Falls, SC, Ruth spent her life in the community she loved. In recent years, she was cared for by the compassionate staff at White Oak Manor in Lancaster, SC, where she was remembered for her kind spirit and cheerful demeanor. A natural caregiver by heart, Ruth pursued nursing as an adult learner but set aside those aspirations to care for her aging parents. Later in life, she extended that same care to friends in need, offering rides to appointments and assistance with errands. Ruth’s love for people was evident in every interaction—she truly delighted in hearing others’ stories and lending a helping hand. She lived her faith every day through the love shared with friends, family and occasionally--strangers. Professionally, Ruth worked for many years in retail at a dress shop before transitioning to floral design at a florist shop, where her creativity flourished. At home, she enjoyed gardening alongside JB and kept a beautiful yard and garden in Summer. Ruth and JB shared a deep bond with their family and close friends and treasured moments were spent rocking on the porch or enjoying trips to Myrtle Beach and Springs Park. They loved good music and square dancing and rarely missed a local event with friends and family. Ruth’s warmth and generosity touched all who knew her. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her sweet memory is sure to bring comfort to those she leaves behind as they remember her beautiful smile, her joy for life and her quiet faith in God.
