Charlotte, NC: Mrs. Ruth Barnett (McFadden) Ray, age 85, formerly of Lake Wateree, Fort Mill, and Rock Hill, SC died January 1, 2011.At the time of her death, she was residing at the Haven at Highland Creek in Charlotte, NC. The Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Lake Wateree Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Gregory officiating.Interment will be at Lake Wateree Baptist Church Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 Tuesday, January 4, 2011at Lake Wateree Baptist Church Mrs. Ray was born November 4, 1925 in Bridgeport, Alabama, a daughter of the late Rev. Mays Milton Barnett and Vannie James Barnett.Most of her childhood was spent in Greenwood, SC where her mother was a house matron at Connie Maxwell Children’s Home.She was a 1945 graduate of Anderson College (University) and 1947 graduate of Winthrop College (University).She taught, primarily, physical education in Rock Hill District 3 and Chester County Schools until her retirement.Her other passions in life were her faith, family, and friends. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Ross L. Ray; son, J. Ed McFadden and wife Nancy of Valdese, NC; daughters, Roseanne Goodson and husband John of Charlotte, NC and Carol Murphy and husband Mike of Snellville, GA; stepson David Ray and wife Carolyn of Charleston, SC, Gina Inman and husband Bill of Texas; 5 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 5 step-great-grandchildren.Also surviving are sisters-in-law Anne Ervin of Fort Mill, SC; Stella Barnett of Charleston, SC; lifelong friend, Lois Bradham of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and numerous extended family. Memorials may be made to Lake Wateree Baptist Church Building Fund, 5856 River Rd. Ridgeway, SC 29130 or Hospice and Palliative Care Lake Norman 705 Griffith St. Ste 203 Davidson, NC 28036.
