Great Falls Mrs. Sadie Gwin Sweatt, 103, died Friday, September 28, 2012, at White-Oak Manor in Lancaster. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 1, 2012, at Heath Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend David Ussery and Reverend John Rumford officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Ave., Great Falls, South Carolina. Mrs. Sweatt was born November 2, 1908, in Chester County and was the daughter of the late John Thomas Gwin and Margaret Rebecca Sanders Gwin. She attended the schools of Chester County and was a devoted member of Heath Chapel United Methodist Church in Great Falls, SC where she was a faithful servant. Mrs. Sweatt was a former clerk with Francis Department Store and worked with the Chester County Council on Aging. She was the widow of Walter Brice Sweatt with whom she operated Sweatt’s Grocery Store in the Flop Eye area in Great Falls. She is survived by two daughters; Betty S. Thorne of Great Falls and Carole S. Gambrell and husband John of Aiken, SC; grandchildren, Melody Thorne Noland and husband Jan of Great Falls, Charles Gordon Thorne and wife Shannon of Lancaster, Brice Sweatt and wife Tracie of Mt. Pleasant, Amy Gambrell of Aiken and Beth Gambrell Radford and husband Phil of Spartanburg; great-grandchildren, James Thorne Noland, Janna Noland, Jacob Noland, Jarrett Noland, Kaylen Thorne, Hayden Thorne, John Neely Sweatt, Catherine Sweatt, Joseph Sweatt and daughter-in-law, Glorious Sweatt of Rock Hill, Several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, John Harvey Sweatt; two grandchildren Michael and Jeremy Sweatt and a son-in-law Capt. Charles G. Thorne.
