Sallie Gibson Bankhead RICHBURG:Mrs. Sallie Gibson Bankhead of 3207 Mountain Gap Road died Wednesday, January 28, 2009. She was 98. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with Rev. John Rumford officiating.Interment will follow at Ebenezer Church Cemetery. Born May 5, 1910 in Chester County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Abraham and Elizabeth Roe Gibson.Mrs. Bankhead was the last surviving member of the 24 children of Abraham Gibson and the last child of a Confederate soldier in SC.She was a graduate of Great Falls High School where she starred in basketball and a graduate of Winthrop College.She was retired as the secretary of Great Falls Elementary School.As a lifelong member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Mrs. Bankhead formerly served as Sunday school teacher. She was the widow of Ed Bankhead. Surviving are her daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Bankhead Walley and her husband Mickey of Richburg; grandchildren, Beth Cloninger and her husband John Scott and Michael Walley of Richburg; and a niece whom she raised, Jerri Gibson McCloud and her husband Jim of Charlotte, NC; their two children, Scott and his wife Caroline and their daughter Gianna of Charlotte and Jimmy McCloud and his wife Kelley of Mount Holly, NC;great-niece Roberta Lee Benton and her daughter Brittany Barnes of Holly Springs, NC; and number of other nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by another niece she raised, Norma Gibson Williams, mother of Roberta Benton. Pallbearers are great nephews, Jan and Wade Noland and Bill Bass; great great nephew, Marvin Gibson; great great-great nephew R.J. Dye; and special friends, James White and Robin Kennedy. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 Friday evening at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home and other times at 3243 Mountain Gap Road, Richburg.
