Mrs. Viola Oliver Sims, 88, died Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM. Monday, October 7, 2024 at Tabernacle Ministries with Rev. Ken Compton officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Monday, October 7, 2024 at Tabernacle Ministries.

Mrs. Sims was born September 18, 1936 in Chesterfield, SC and was a daughter of the late James Dean Oliver and Bessie Mae Gardner Oliver.  She attended the schools of Jefferson, SC and was retired from JP Stevens in Great Falls, SC and worked in furniture factories in High Point, NC.” Nanny “as she was known by her grandchildren was very devoted to her grandchildren. Viola enjoyed crocheting and she loved to play bingo.

She is survived by her four children, Julie Blackwell (Bobby) of Blackstock, SC, Ricky Thomas (Rachel) of Great Falls, SC, Randy Glenn Sims of Great Falls, SC and Kathy Edwards Payne (David) of York, SC; eleven grandchildren, April Blackwell (Josh) of Blackstock, SC, Mathew Blackwell (Brooke) of Blackstock, SC, Anna Plyer (Wayne) of Great Falls, SC, Ricky Thomas Sims, Jr. of Great Falls, SC; Derrick Sims of Great Falls, SC, Crissy Sims of Chester, SC, Shelly Sims of Chester, SC, Brittany Sims  and Wayne Sims of Lancaster, SC , Tina Edwards of Chapel Hill, NC and Nickalas Payne of Union, SC; fifteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved dog “Rocky”.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Coleman Sims, her brothers, Luther, Raymond, Bruce Oliver and her two sisters, Hattie Mae Hipp and May Lee Gainey and one son Wayne Sims.
