Great Falls Mr. James Thomas “Tommy” Evans, 74, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Prisma Health Heart Hospital in Columbia, SC.Services will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 6964 Wateree Road, Great Falls, SC with Rev. J.D. Wilson officiating.The family will receive friends anytime at the home of his daughter, Tammy, at 100 Edgewood Avenue, Great Falls. Tommy was born March 13, 1947, in Great Falls, SC.He was the son of the late Bascom and Beatrice Beckham Evans.He was a graduate of Great Falls High School.Tommy served the Town of Great Falls as the Fire Chief and later in life worked at Essex in Chester.He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon.He loved his family and friends, his church, serving others, and his faithful four-legged companion, Buttercup. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Yarbrough Evans; one daughter, Tammy Evans Snipes (Ken) of Great Falls; one grandson, Zachary Thomas Snipes (Bryanna); his brothers- and sisters-in law, Robbie Yarbrough (Sharon) of Great Falls, Mike Yarbrough (Kim) of Rock Hill, Margaret Norsworthy (Ed) of Great Falls; and brother, Heyward Evans of Great Falls.He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Judy Puckett (Chris), Matthew Yarbrough, Brittany Hunter, Madey Gleaves (Michael), Peyton Yarbrough, Ashlyn Boykin (Brandyn), and Aaron Blackmon; and great nieces and nephews, Avery, Shyan, Briggs, and Adaleigh Hunter, and Lilly and Callie Puckett and Greyson Yarbrough, special “grandchildren.”In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret Evans, Charlie Evans, and Clyde Evans.
