Great Falls Mr. John C. "J.C." Broom, 92, of Great Falls died Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Great Falls with Rev. Greg Batchelor and Rev. Billy Harmon officiating. Interment will be private. Born January 20, 1918 in Union Co., NC, he was a son of the late Henry Broom and Mae Garland Broom. He was a graduate of Rowan County, NC schools and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Broom retired from Cooper Furniture Company as a salesman. He was also an appliance repairman for more than 30 years and continued to use his repair skills as a ministry to those he could help. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Great Falls where he served as a Sunday School teacher. He was also a former member of Great Falls Town Council for 28 years. Mr. Broom is survived by his wife, Ann C. Broom; two sons, John H. Broom and his wife, Betty and Mike W. Broom and his wife, Chris both of Great Falls; one daughter, Laura Karas and her husband, Jim of Thomasville, GA; a special daughter, Kelly Shepherd and her husband, Bill of Great Falls; 10 grandchildren, Kellyn, Lindsey, Karri, John, Clint, David, Richie, Ben, Billy, Josh, and; four great grandchildren, Hannah, Ashlynn, Chloe, and Hunter; and one sister, Helen Cole of Camden, SC. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at First Baptist Church of Great Falls and other times at the home of Johnny and Betty Broom.
