Great Falls Mr. Andrew James “A.J.” Williams, Jr., 84, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at The Community Living Center of Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC. He was honored with exceptional loving care and a final salutation Veteran ceremony upon his passing at Warrior’s Walk. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 26, at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Chase Catledge and Rev. Patrick Blackmon officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 25, at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Ave., Great Falls, SC. Mr. Williams was born May 10, 1929 in Ada, Oklahoma and was a son of the late Andrew James Williams, Sr. and Bertha Williams Birmingham. He graduated from Clinton College with an economics degree. Mr. Williams proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force at the age of 16 and retired after 22 years of loyal service having fought in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was later employed by J.P. Stevens. Mr. Williams was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he was a former church treasurer and deacon. He was a member of Great Falls Masonic Lodge #277 where he served as Worshipful Master and also participated in the Shriners organization. Mr. Williams was a member of the community GRASP committee and a was a member of the Greenlawn Cemetery Committee. He is survived by two sons, Keith Williams and wife Darlene and Scott Williams and wife Jo Ann both of Great Falls; two daughters, Deb Shull and husband Joey of Columbia and Anjie Lucas and husband Jeff of Fort Mill; eleven grandchildren, Kelley Knight, Rick Lucas, Jamie Toole, Betsy Williams, Joey March, Madison Lucas, Amanda Hunter, Scotty Williams, Jeffrey Lucas, Brittany Blackmon, and Kendall Lucas; twelve great-grandchildren; and one brother, Cecil Williams and wife Lola of Salem Oregon. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Annette Roddey Williams, two sisters, and four brothers. The family would like to take this opportunity to extend their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Dorn VA Medical Center and the Hospice staff for the loving care they provided to our loved one and to us during this difficult time.
